A few years after I started Headlines & Deadlines, a client recommended my services to a company that organized art exhibitions. They were planning an important show that was to take place at the Lexington Avenue Armory in NYC, a massive venue in both size and significance. Since they had never attempted anything of this scope before, they needed an events organizer extraordinaire…someone who could not only garner major publicity before, during, and after the show to insure high attendance by the public, but also someone to link them with a major charity and A-list celebrities to serve on their Benefit Committee.
After teaming up with God’s Love We Deliver, the AIDS charity that delivers healthy meals to homebound patients, I was personally able to secure celebrities from the classical stage (Jessye Norman and Mikhail Baryshnikov), Broadway (Betty Buckley and Ben Vereen), cabaret (Bobby Short, Gregory Hines, Randy Newman), and film/TV (Valerie Perrine and Sally Jesse Raphael). Once they had committed to the event, I launched a media campaign that resulted in prominent press, including a live segment filmed during the event by Today in New York. I also garnered coverage in all of the NY metro area newspapers and sponsorships from top NYC salons and restaurants.
The show was an overwhelming success that led to a series of art events in and around the NY area over the next few years, all of which I marketed and developed with the same outcome as the first one. However, the real success story here belongs to my firm since this experience served as a springboard to the growth of my company.
